For the past three years, Cole, Cristóbal, and Verónica have carefully grown Brisa Ranch from a small pumpkin patch into an organic farm that produces fruits and vegetables year round. As tenant farmers, the three friends spend long days on land they cannot truly call their own, dreaming of a future where they can set down roots- both literal and figurative. And like so many others, 2020 has turned life at Brisa upside down. While Brisa has been threatened by COVID, economic instability, and wildfires, the three friends have shown just how resilient their small farm truly can be. But they’re still faced with the biggest obstacle of all, land ownership, and without land to call their own, their dreams will never be fully realized.
